Day 1: Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your private driver will transfer you to your accommodations in Arusha town.
Day 2: After a refreshing night sleep in a lovely Arusha hotel, you will board a chartered bush flight from Arusha Airport to Katavi National Park to begin your unforgettable safari adventure. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your friendly, private safari guide who will accompany you to your stylish and authentic tented safari camp.
Day 3: Choose a dawn to dusk game viewing experience, or return to camp in between game drives for lunch and relaxation. Since the game is everywhere in Katavi, you often don’t have to leave your tent veranda to see all kinds. Elephant are frequent visitors, attracted to the same shady fruit trees as we are, and vast herds of buffalo graze on the flood plain, sometimes right in front of camp.
Day 4: After a delicious, lovingly prepared camp breakfast, you will journey on to enjoy the massive hippo, buffalo and elephant population as they are drawn to the various rivers of Katavi to drink. This day you will likely see lion, hyena and other predators who know their prey are drawn here. Perhaps this is a day for a leisurely walking safari for you or a boat safari. The choices are many in Katavi.
Day 5: Enjoy your final day marveling at hippo, crocs, lion, leopards, buffalo, elephant, and all of the amazing African wildlife in abundance here. Visiting Katavi is an experience few people are fortunate enough to have. It is truly as if you have travelled back in time to an untouched wonderland.
Day 6: After breakfast and saying goodbye to your new friends at Katavi, you will be whisked away to perhaps the most extraordinary location in all of Africa, Mahale Mountain National Park. A very special camp awaits you on a pristine, white sandy beach overlooking the turquoise water of Lake Tanganyika. Located in the far west of Tanzania, Mahale is remote and largely undisturbed. There are no roads, so you will be transferred by boat to your thatched roof accommodations on Lake Tanganyika.
Day 7: During breakfast your guide will brief you on the whereabouts of the chimps. Your trekking schedule will be tailored to this, or you may choose another activity such as: fishing, boat trips, gentle forest walks or a lazy afternoon on the beach. In Mahale, your unique and intimate camp has just six wood and thatch bandas set between the beach and the edge of the forest line at the base of the mountains. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, strong showers and flush toilets, dressing rooms and an upstairs chill-out deck. Dine in the main mess banda on the beach and enjoy sundowners on the rocks at the end of the beach. The main mess is the only structure on the beach and it is the focal point of camp.
Day 8: Continue your adventure in Mahale, one of the only places left in the world where you can see chimpanzees in the wild.
Day 9: Enjoy your final breathtaking moments in the wondrous Mahale Mountains while you are transferred by boat to the airstrip. You will fly back to Arusha to begin your journey home or wherever your travels take you. Depending on your international flight schedule, a day room can be arranged.
